Our Adoption Process
When you adopt, it's so much more than adding a cute little face to your home. When you adopt, you bring in a new member to your family, a new mouth to feed, a new living thing to look after. When you adopt, you make a commitment to provide that animal with a secure and loving home for the rest of their days... when you adopt, you save a life.
Once you adopt from us, it will be up to you to ensure that your little one remains up to date with their health care. To make this transition smoother for the cats and kittens involved, we make certain that they are fully vetted before they go to their forever homes.

What Does It Mean to be "Fully Vetted"?
At Pittsburgh Purrfect Cat Rescue, "fully vetted" includes:
- micro-chipped
- tested for FIV and FELV
- all required rounds of FVRCP vaccine
- rabies vaccine
- Keep in mind that rabies vaccines can only be given at 12 weeks of age, or older, so we cannot adopt out kittens before this time.
- flea treated
- tick treated
- dewormed
- ear mite treated
- spay/neuter
- Kittens under eight weeks old who come into the rescue have to have had at least three rounds of FVRCP, which are spaced two weeks apart.
- Adult cats will have received two rounds of FVRCP vaccine.
- Cats/kittens who come in with pre existing conditions are treated for those conditions, and they will be held in foster care until they recover.
Our Adoption Process
Pittsburgh Purrfect Cat Rescue is a Foster based rescue. This means that there is not a shelter you can visit to see all of our available cats and kittens in one location; instead, we rely on a group of beautiful people who volunteer their time, and their homes, to helping felines in need. Because of this, we've developed an adoption process that works with how we do things.
The first step to adopting from us is to fill out an online application. From there, one of of our Application Reviewers will look over your responses and get back to you within 72 hours. If everything looks good on your application, you will be asked to email a video of your residence. The video will need to show each room in your home and should specify where the cat/kitten's food bowl will go and where the litter box will be placed. If your video is approved, your Application Reviewer will reach out to your landlord (if you are a renter), to your vet (if you have/had an animal in your family), and to your references. If this is going to be your first time as a pet owner, we will ask you to research reputable veterinary offices in your area so that you have a plan for the care of your future cat or kitten. If everything checks out, you will be approved to adopt from us!
ADOPTING A KITTEN:
If you are interested in adopting a kitten, you will be matched with a furbaby after you've been fully approved; you'll be put on the waitlist until the kitten you chose is fully vetted and ready to be adopted. Your Application Reviewer will reach out to your future kitten's Foster to see if they're comfortable sharing their contact information with you, and from there, you can contact the Foster directly so that they can send you photos and videos of your little one. You may also ask them questions about the kitten's favorite foods, litter, toys, etc. As you communicate with the Foster, please keep in mind that they have full time jobs and families outside of the volunteer work they do for the rescue. We prefer that you wait to meet the kitten until they've been fully vetted in order to limit foot traffic in our Fosters' homes. This means that the day you meet your kitten, if you love them as much as we think you will, you will have the option to bring them home that same day! Because of this, we suggest bringing a carrier with you to this meeting along with the adoption fee. You may choose to pay through Paypal, Venmo, or with cash. If you move forward with the adoption that day, you will be asked to sign an Adoption Contract, which you will receive a copy of, and you will be given all of the health information needed so that you can take it to your vet and keep your new friend updated on their healthcare.
The fee for adopting a kitten (under one year of age) is $125; all proceeds go to funding our rescue efforts.
ADOPTING A CAT:
If you are interested in adopting a cat and have been approved, we will put you in contact with the cat's Foster. They will share photos, videos, and health updates on your soon-to-be friend. As you communicate with the Foster, please keep in mind that they have full time jobs and families outside of the volunteer work they do for the rescue. We prefer that you hold off on meeting the cat until they've been fully vetted so that we can limit foot traffic in our Fosters' homes. Once the cat you are interested in is fully vetted, you and the Foster can work out a day and time for you to visit the animal. We suggest bringing a carrier with you along with the adoption fee so that when you meet your cat, you can choose to bring them home that same day. You may choose to pay through Paypal, Venmo, or with cash. If you do choose to move forward with the adoption, you will be asked to sign an Adoption Contract, which you will receive a copy of, and you will be given all of the health information needed so that you can take it to your vet and keep your new companion up to date on their healthcare.
The fee for adopting a cat is $105; all proceeds go to funding our rescue efforts.
